Otoño en Buenos Aires - Jose Elizondo

"Danzas Latinoamericanas - Otoño en Buenos Aires"
In this excerpt, I perform the opening of the first movement. It is characterized by its strength and resonance in the mid-range of the cello, establishing the tango rhythm right from the start. This rhythmic motif will echo and undergo variations throughout the entire movement.
We are Melifluo Trio!

Hello, this is our ensemble!
We are Melifluo Trio, an ensemble composed by three musicians (the violinist Mireia, the cellist Julia and the pianist Carmen) who finished their bachelor in Classical Music in Spain and their master studies in ArtEZ Zwolle with the professors Sarah Kapustin (violin), Karlien Bartels (cello) and Helena Basilova (piano). As an ensemble we have received masterclasses from Frank Van de Laar, Philippe Graffin, Dimitry Fertschmann and Sarah Kapustin, among others. In 2022 we got selected for "The Best Of" from the Chamber music competition that was held in ArtEZ Conservatory.
We have also recently performed several concerts in locations such as "De Groote Societeit", "De Groote Kerk" and the "Stadkammer" in Zwolle, among other places.
One of the interests and aims of the trio is to play repertoire that goes from well-known composers such as Beethoven or Shostakovich, to less-known ones such as Jerôme Ducros, Alexander Krein or Jose Elizondo.
Otoño (Autumn) - Astor Piazzolla

"Otoño Porteño"
In this excerpt, we are performing the beginning of Autumn, one of the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires composed by A. Piazzolla. The piano takes the lead at the start, creating the atmosphere and introducing the harmonic structure on which the theme of this season will be based. Starting at measure 9, the violin and cello intertwine with the piano, highlighting the characteristic rhythmic counterpoint of this movement.
Cello Concerto 4th mov. - H. Villa-Lobos

"4th Movement"
Here I present the very ending of Heitor Villa-Lobos's concerto for cello and orchestra (in this performance with pianist Roland Aalbers). It highlights the virtuosity and the powerful sound achieved through the use of all four strings of the instrument, which is typical of many concert finales. In this case, the technical difficulty of the passage matches the virtuosic impression it leaves on the audience, providing a strong and energetic way to conclude a concerto of this difficulty.
Invierno (Winter) - Astor Piazzolla

"Invierno Porteño"
This passage begins with a short piano cadenza found near the start of Piazzolla's "Invierno Porteño." In this particular arrangement, the cadenza develops one of the main themes of this season, giving the piano a more prominent and virtuosic role. In all the seasons, there are small cadenzas like this written for the violin and cello as well. When these two instruments "interrupt" the melodic atmosphere created by the preceding piano passage, they do so with force and precision through a descending chromatic scale in fifths, leading into a much more rhythmic and vertical passage.
