About

Julia Misas is an Andalusian cello player who is based in Zwolle, The Netherlands, and currently finishing her Master Degree in ArtEZ Hogeschool.

She had her first contact with music thanks to the knowledge of her father, also a musician, who encouraged her to take piano and singing lessons back when she was 5 years old.

When she was admitted at 8 years old in the public conservatory in the city she was born in, El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz, Spain), she had the chance to choose any instrument of her taste. In that moment she felt a connection with the cello which keeps unbroken and getting stronger by the day until now.

After 4 years she continued her studies at Manuel de Falla’s conservatory in Cádiz, under the mentoring of Álvaro Serrano Calleja who motivated her to continue her university studies (bachelor) at Manuel Castillo’s conservatory in Sevilla (CSM) with the teacher Israel Fausto Martínez-Melero, a cellist and professor who was a prominent student of world wide famous cellist Janos Starker.

It was during her 4 years of bachelor when she met Karlien Bartels, her current teacher at ArtEZ with whom she also studied in her third year of bachelor when Julia was granted with the Erasmus scholarship.

She then wanted to extend the experience and came back to study at ArtEZ one contract year and the Master she is currently finishing.

Julia is still looking forward to continue learning and improving her musical and technical skills, but she is also eager to come into the professional world in which she already has some experience in.

She is also currently working on her research and her final exam, in which she will explore different colors and cultures all based around Latinamerican music and its relationship with other arts.

She is the cellist of Melifluo Trio; a violin, cello and piano agroupation that has been active for the last 3 years.
